What types of projects or initiatives does the foundation typically support? The Foundation supports program grants and general operating grants but rarely capital funding requests.
Are there any specific geographic areas or regions the foundation prioritizes for funding? The Foundation funds organizations in the cities of Milwaukee and Green Bay, Wisconsin, statewide in Wisconsin and Wyoming, and in the upper Midwest.
What types of organizations or entities are eligible to apply (e.g., nonprofits, individuals, schools)? Nonprofits are eligible to apply for a grant. For-profit organizations with a fiscal agent may also apply.
What is the application process and timeline? There is one grant cycle per year. While LOI's are accepted year-round, they are reviewed at a spring and a fall meeting. LOI applicants are notified of their statusby the end of April, Proposals are due at the end of May, and grant decisions are made in July. Renewal applicants follow the same schedule. Please refer to the guidelines for more details.

How do current grantees re-apply for renewal grants? You will receive a combined renewal proposal form and report form by the end of April. (2024 grantees - these will go out the week of April 14!)
Is there a specific format or template for the application? Yes, there is a form that will be sent to your organization only if a proposal will be accepted. Letters of Inquiry are accepted year round and applications are due according to the published guidelines.
What is the typical grant size or range that the foundation offers? Grant sizes vary but are usually between $10,000 and $25,000.
Does the foundation require progress reports or evaluations for funded projects? The Foundation requires a simple progress report at the end of the grant period or when applying for a renewal grant.
Can applicants apply for funding more than once, and if so, what are the guidelines for repeat applications? The Lux Foundation often supports organizations for many years, although organization must be invited to submit a renewal proposal. LOI's may only be submitted one time per year.

Do you have a defined length of time that the Foundation will provide continued annual support? At the moment, there is no policy for the number of years an organization may be invited back to reapply.
How does the foundation communicate its funding decisions to applicants? The Foundation communicates funding decisions via email after the Board meetings.

How many organizations are invited to submit proposals after submitting a LOI? This is a new process for the Foundation and therefore there is no historic data. However, the Foundation mainly provides funding for renewal grants and will probably select a small number of organizations.
